Tucked away in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside, Old
Cottage was built over 500 years ago, and dates from Christopher
Columbus' discovery of America and before the reign of Henry Vlll.
The house is one of the oldest in the area, and stands on land that
along with the ancient common of Lunces, and Ditchling Common, was once
part of the Royal Court of King Alfred the Great.
The
cottage is part of a larger country house, and is completely
self-contained with it's own private front door. The accommodation
consists of a living room with a fabulous old inglenook fireplace, cosy
dining room, utility/rod room with fridge, microwave/convection oven
and tea and coffee making facilities (coffee is freshly ground, of
course), modern bathroom with large walk-in shower, master bedroom with
four poster bed, second single bedroom, and space for a third single
occupancy if required. The living room has digital tv discreetly
placed. The house is full of original features, beams and
antiques. The master bedroom has medieval ships beams with carvings,
and large centuries-old oak floorboards. You can even see the horse
hairs sticking out from the original plaster in places!
Attention
to detail is very important to us. All bed linen is luxurious 400 count
Egyptian cotton, and duvets and pillows are anti-allergy. Complimentary
luxury toiletries include a range of 'Sanctuary' products including spa
treatments and body lotions.
The majority of our fresh food produce is sourced locally, and is organic wherever possible.
Please
contact us for details of corporate bookings. We can open up the rest
of the larger attached house to provide a further three bedrooms and two bathrooms if
required, and we are always happy to arrange and book extra
accommodation at neighbouring hotels for larger parties.
