We pride ourselves on the freshness and quality of our food. All of our fresh produce is sourced locally and is organic wherever possible. We provide either a Continental or Full English breakfast, brought to the cottage from the main house at a pre-arranged time of your choice. Lunch is a sumptuous hamper with meats, cheeses, freshly cut salad, home made pickles etc. at your chosen venue. The supplier of our wonderful hand-made meat, game, vegetarian and fruit pies is also the supplier of the Royal Windsor and Sandringham Estates. For your evening meal, we have a 'menu' of suggestions for restaurants and gastro-pubs. This list has been extensively researched, and we feel provides you with a choice of the finest cuisine in the south. Here are a few of our choices for evening meals out:
![]() Gravetye sits amongst 1,000 acres of Sussex Forest, and is one of England's grand old Manor houses. Famous for it's food, the Manor has a timeless quality and is a truly memorable place to visit for your evening meal. Gravetye has a Michelin star, three AA rosettes, an RAC Gold ribbon, was voted third best hotel in the UK by the Conde Naste travellers awards, and Forbes Magazine named it fifth in a list of 'Top ten foreign country house hotels in the world'.
![]() Ah, where do we start? The Griffin is our favourite pub in the world. This year, the Griffin was voted by the foodies bible 'The Good Food Guide' as one of the best ten pubs in Britain to eat in, and has also been named as the Sussex County Dining Pub of the Year. Even Prince Charles is a visitor. Over 400 years old, the pub is one of the UK's hidden treasures. In the summer you can sit outside and sample the wonderful local harvey's ale, eat from the extensive barbeque, and look out over acres of unspoilt Sussex countryside.
![]() Situated in the nearby Tudor village of Cuckfield, Michelin-starred Ockenden Manor is one of the most beautiful and traditional venues in the South East. Sitting in 9 acres of gardens, this lovely Elizabethan Manor House has a beautiful and intimate wood panelled restaurant with ornately painted ceiling, stained glass windows and in the winter, a real log fire. Head chef Stephen Crane and his team deliver some of the finest food in the county, making the best use of the local Sussex produce for the a-la-Carte and 'Cuckfield' menus as well as a vegetarian and a seven course 'tasting' menu.
THE JOLLY SPORTSMAN AT EAST CHILTINGTON ![]() The Jolly Sportsman, like the Griffin, is well known for it's superb food. Tucked away among the winding lanes of rural Sussex, the Jolly Sportsman is one of the South's best gastro-pubs. Although supplying world class food, the pub has kept a traditional feel, with barrels of local bitter behind the bar, an extensive wine list, over 90 malt whiskies and a relaxed and warm atmosphere. 'A gourmet treat of a pub'. The Sunday Times 'It was one of those days when you felt you had strayed into a different time, when the world was a simpler, easier and much nicer place'. The Guardian. JEREMY'S RESTAURANT, BORDE HILL ![]() Jeremy's is an award winning restaurant, overlooking a victorian walled garden in the grounds of the beautiful 200 year old Borde Hill Estate. Jeremy Ashpool and his team serve modern European cuisine, sourced as locally as possible, with local trademark dishes that include Haunch of Venison with Puy Lentils and Bordelaise Sauce, Pan-fried Squid with a Ragout of Chickpea, Chorizo and Red Peppers, served alongside the home-made walnut bread which is made daily on the premises. The restaurant also offers a 6 course tasting menu. In the summer, the terrace is a lovely place to enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere. 'A model of a relaxed restaurant, an elegant and comfortable dining room serving stylish, modern pan-European food that manages to avoid fashion clichés'. The Good Food Guide.
![]() Another lovely and atmospheric local pub, with a real sense of history. Sitting prettily in the foothills of the South Downs, at the heart of the ancient and idyllic village of Ditchling, The Bull, built in 1563, is home to a splendid menu and a range of guest ales. Inside,
you'll find a big log fire, a wealth of beams and exposed brickwork.
It's no wonder that the Daily Telegraph recently gave it a glowing
review:
'The Bull serves splendid food, including a range of
intriguing snacks, such as Camembert roasted in its own box with tomato
and apricot chutney'. BRIGHTON AND...
