boringwheel fishery in the Sussex Countryside

Boringwheel fishery is one of the area's best kept secrets. Situated in the heart of the ancient Ashdown Forest, it is a 6 ½ acre, 400 year old spring-fed lake. It takes its name from the water's mill which provided power for boring out the gun barrels for England's medieval fleet of warships.

World famous angler John Wilson says of the fishery "Hidden among a profusion of colour and ancient trees is a 400-year-old lake that is one of the prettiest day-ticket trout fisheries I have visited".

Due to it's open banks with few casting obstacles behind you, this pretty water is ideal for learning to fly cast. We usually include it at the start of our week's fishing itinerary to help the beginner or improve the techniques of the more experienced.

Stocked with rainbows and browns up to specimen size, the fish are stocked from Roger Daltrey's Dorset trout farms (Roger's fabulous Lakedown fishery is high on our list of fisheries that we visit).

Boringwheel  fishery also has a number of boats, and is an official 'troutmasters' water.
