Chalk Springs is one of the UK's most famous and unique fisheries.
Situated in an attractive woodland valley on the Duke of Norfolk's
Estate at Arundel, the fishery has about five acres of water and is fed
by natural springs, helping to keep the lakes cool throughout the year.
What
makes Chalk Springs such a memorable experience, is the crystal clarity
of the water. If you like to stalk your fish, this is the water for
you. Due to the gin clear spring water, a quiet approach and a
sensitively chosen fly and long leader are a must. The fish are not
easily tricked, which of course makes it all the more special when you
get a fish to take. You can see the fish in the lakes and observe their
reaction to your flies - but remember they can also see you! Catching
one of the rare and elusive blue trout is always worth a celebration
that evening.
Subtlety is the key word for best
results. Small weighted patterns are usually best - damsels,
hare's ear, PTN, buzzers and mayfly nymphs are recommended flies. Dry
fly activity includes a mayfly hatch, alder, daddy long-legs and
pond olives as well as prolific hatches of damsels and sedge. The
controlled weed growth and surrounding plant life ensure a wide variety
of insects inhabit the lakes.
A beautiful fishery, our clients always come away enthusing about Chalk Springs.
