Dever Springs, situated beside the River Dever (a tributary of the
legendary River Test), is arguably the most famous 'big fish' water in
England. Specimen fish caught at Dever include a British record brown
of 28lbs 2ozs. The Fishery comprises two spring fed lakes totalling six
acres and a half mile stretch of the River Dever. The well established
lakes are abounding with aquatic fly life, which includes an excellent
Mayfly hatch in season.
This
is a little further afield than our other fisheries, but we include it
as part of our itinerary as it really is the premier water for big
fish. The minimum size of the fish is 4lbs, with the average being 5lb
8oz. You always have a very real chance of taking a double-figure fish.
We can't promise you a 20lb-er, but they're in there! There's been a
few Old Cottage 'champagne evenings' that have followed our visit to
Dever Springs.
Although regular visitors, we still get
that 'jittery' feeling of anticipation as we approach the fishery
through the lovely Hampshire countryside...
A great day out.
