ASHDOWN FOREST
Winnie-the-Pooh bridge in Ashdown Forest

Old Cottage nestles in some of the most beautiful countryside in England. Encircled by ancient Sussex forests and villages listed in the 1086 Domesday book, we are surrounded by history.

We are only 20 minutes from London Gatwick, and 90 minutes from London Heathrow. Haywards Heath mainline train station is ten minutes away and has trains that run straight into central London, with a journey time of about 50 minutes.

A 20 minute drive over the South Downs range of hills will take you to the seaside resort of Brighton. Brighton is home to the Royal Pavilion, built by John Nash for George lV in 1815, and the world famous Palace Pier, one of the finest Victorian piers still standing. Brighton is also deservedly famous for it's excellent and varied shopping.

If you or your children are fond of the Winnie-the-Pooh tales, we are very close to the house in the Ashdown Forest where AA Milne lived and wrote his famous stories. You can even play 'Pooh Sticks' at the actual spot where the game was invented!

We are also home to one of the last remaining working steam railways, the Bluebell Railway. Trips can be booked for you, and we recommend the memorable dining experience that can be had on this historic steam train.
